Reader, Did you know that just beyond the Malls and industrial parks there are paths?
Paths to places that people think do not exist. These are the darken worlds be-speckled by light filtered by the leaves of trees. A place where the moist rains soften and muddy the ground.
A place where the forgotten go to form some community, a place of lepers: the homeless.
Here just beyond plenty are the bits of pieces of human activity of people who left this world because they were overwhelmed by it, lost themselves by the storms of joblessness, abuse, drugs, or mental illness.
These people live their lives in these dark shaded areas just beyond sight.
Garbage neatly piled in some areas and in others tossed like leaves in a storm. Some work in the light others take care of the dark. People wanting to return to the world of light but do not how to or are not ready. Here I stand to bear witness to their pain just a little remove and offer what comfort I can.
It's easy for me. I can return to the light and return to my comforts. And knowing that I too struggle on how to help and not always knowing how.
Their bewilderment on how it happened to them is equal to mine not knowing how to fix it. I'm not so different. Am I? By: Volunteer
