  1. In 2007, 12.5% of the U.S. population, or 37,300,000 million people, lived in poverty.
  2. Eroding work opportunities
  3. Stagnant or falling incomes
  4. Less secure jobs which offer fewer benefits
  5. Decline in public assistance
  6. Extreme poverty is growing more common for children
  7. A lack of affordable housing
  8. Limited scale of housing assistance programs
  9. Lack of affordable heath care
  10. Hate crimes and violence targeted at homeless
  11. Domestic violence
  12. Mental illness
  13. Addiction disorders
